Congress

We hosted the IV International Red Kite Congress

At this event, we brought together more than 120 experts from nine countries to update knowledge on the red kite, review its current status and define how to continue conserving it across Europe in the coming years

The Binaced/Valcarca Town Council, the Friends of the Vulture Fund, BirdWings and Fundación Iberdrola España organised the “IV International Red Kite Congress”

Experts from Germany, Austria, Spain, France, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, the Czech Republic and Switzerland updated the latest research and knowledge on the red kite in Europe. The main groups involved in the conservation and management of the species were represented: researchers, environmental authority technicians, representatives of the energy sector, forestry officers and NGOs, as well as farmers and livestock breeders.

This broad representation is essential to ensure that the knowledge shared at the congress – with 59 presentations organised into nine sessions and four round tables – serves as a foundation for conservation programmes for the species in Europe in the coming years. The presentations addressed the status of the red kite, its population trends, ecology and health. Particular attention was also given to the threats it faces and to conservation measures. The congress concluded with the preparation of a report focusing on the future of this bird of prey.
