Santa María la Mayor Cathedral in Tudela will feature new exterior ornamental lighting thanks to Fundación Iberdrola España

Santa María la Mayor Cathedral in Tudela will renew its exterior ornamental lighting system following the agreement signed between Fundación Iberdrola España, the Cathedral Chapter of Tudela and the municipal council

Fundación Iberdrola España has committed to refurbish and enhance the exterior ornamental lighting of Santa María la Mayor Cathedral in Tudela. This will be made possible through the collaboration agreement signed with the Cathedral Chapter of Tudela and the city council.

The project, backed by an investment of €250,000, includes the installation of new state-of-the-art LED luminaires aimed at reducing the church’s energy consumption and enhancing its architectural, cultural and religious heritage. This investment seeks to highlight the beauty of the monument, built in the proto-Gothic style with numerous Romanesque elements. Construction began at the end of the 12th century on the site of a former 9th-century mosque.

This agreement forms part of the broad and diverse programme designed for 2026 to mark the 125th anniversary of Iberdrola’s founding. It ranges from art exhibitions, music festivals and technology showcases to social events under the slogan “125 light-years”.
